The role holder will have a strong understanding of toxicology in line with Industry trends. They will be part of the Consumer Safety Department within the toxicology group, and responsible for ensuring cosmetic products are developed in line with the requirements of the European Cosmetics Regulation with regard to safety. This role will overlap with several key functions in the business, most notably Cosmetic New product development, Microbiology, Global Quality, Packaging, Accesories, Procurement and Regulatory Affairs. The role holder will need to be knowledgable about the current industrial trends should share our passion for protecting the safety of our consumers.
  • New Product Development: Applies academic background, practical hands-on experience, and sound scientific methods to generate and interpret data, make safety recommendations, solve problems, and make connections against project needs and problem resolution. Responsible for delivering on all safety tasks during the NPD Process.
  • Subject Matter Expert: Able to independently formulate hypothesis, design experiments to test it, interpret complex data, write reports and publications, communicate results in the business context, including at external events. Consulted and helps address specific questions and issues related to current and new ingredients and technologies in their area of expertise. Able to conduct safety assessment independently using available databases, systems and tools. Seeks and integrates input from experts / expert teams as needed. Able to write, document and communicate safety assessment reports in a business context. Able to learn and apply new methods, follows scientific development in the area of expertise.
  • Literature Research: Designs and conducts robust literature searches to support product safety assessment & surveillance and comply with global regulatory requirements. Responsible for ensuring proper access, utilization and dissemination of data obtained from licensed sources, including scientific and medical literature, symposia, patents, etc. Ability to implement & utilise tools to manage and analyse large data sets, identify trends and forecasts.
  • Undesirable Event Management Processes: Work with team members and multifunctional team to implement, improve and oversee cosmetovigilance assessments & monitoring processes, and ensures the continual safety of on-market products.
  • Regulatory Expertise: Work with regional and local regulatory teams, alongside Industry Organisations, to ensure Cosmetic products are compliant from both a safety and regulatory perspective. Actively keeps abreast of regulation change and consumer trends to proactively take action to protect product portfolio
  • Project Management: Responsibility for delivery of specific safety initiatives as required. Managing safety input for multiple project & NPD workstreams
  • Packaging and accessory Safety: Work on developing packaging and accessory safety requirements in line with both Industry and Regulatory needs. Work with cross functional team to develop and put in place ways of working to ensure effective safety assessment has been performed. Should have experience in working in these areas and aware of the literature or reference material to use.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Toxicology or Pharmacology (or equivalent degree), with strong academic records
  • Fluency in English
  • Min 3-5 years working experience in a toxicologist role
  • Experience in interpreting toxicological data and preparing toxicological profiles of chemicals
