Purpose Of The Role

The Microbiologist is responsible for ensuring cosmetic products microbiology safety and compliance with global regulations and internal policies across the business categories ahead of sale in relevant markets. The successful candidate will work supporting the risk assessment and completion of technical requirements alongside the Consumer Safety team and our category teams during New Product Development (NPD). The ideal candidate will support all steps on a NPD project, from risk assessment and testing plan until managing samples selection and workflow as well as documentation required to approve a new product and support microbiology activities.

What will you do?

• Knowledge in microbiological practices, methods and raw materials related to cosmetic industry.
• Ensuring product preservative systems for all cosmetic categories products are aligned with strategy
• Lead projects related to investigating, and proposing new/innovative testing methods in liaison with third part laboratory;
• Proposing and leading continuous improvement projects with technical or process focus;
• Management of routine testing with third part laboratory (samples selection, order creation, results follow up);
• Ensure test results are captured and shared with senior team members;
• Conducting raw material risk assessment and defining RM specification;
• Identify and develop best practices within the Department including continuous development initiatives.
• Attending team meetings, generating all the related documents necessary to compose Product Information File or Cosmetic Product Safety Report;
• Maintain SOPs, microbiology guidelines and related documentation in support of testing and technical procedures reviewed and updated for cosmetics;
• Support activities for portfolio management and maintenance.
• Communicate to the broader Microbiology team on any requests received outside standard NPD timings and agree actions required and revised NPD timelines as necessary.
• Carry out any other Department tasks as required.

Your Background And Your Qualifications
• Minimum degree qualified in relevant scientific discipline (e.g. but not limited to: Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy or Biochemistry).
• 2 years of experience in microbiology or research and development in cosmetics, food or pharmaceutical.
• High level of computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Good organizational & administrative capability.
• Self-motivated, ability to prioritise workload.
• Team player with ability to act on own initiative.
• Good interpersonal & ability to influence. Ability to build relationships and a good understanding of working within a multi-cultural environment.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
